Day of the Seafarer (DotS) 2026 takes place against a backdrop of complex geopolitical tensions that continue to pose a threat to the physical and mental well-being of vessel crews worldwide.
In selecting ‘Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks’ as its campaign for this year’s DotS, the International Maritime Organization calls attention to the vital role seafarers play in keeping global commerce moving – even through times of great hardship.
Recent events in regions including the Persian Gulf highlight the vulnerability of ships and their crews during international conflicts. While such circumstances are beyond shipping’s control, they serve as a critical reminder to the industry: the safety and mental health of seafarers must always be our utmost priority.
At Wallem, an industry-leading 96% crew retention rate reflects our efforts to maintain the quality of life at sea. We uphold seafarer wellbeing with a comprehensive framework of initiatives which includes Wellness at Sea, Wellness Champions onboard and ashore, support for the families of seafarers, and the Dignity at Sea and SeaVoice programmes.
We also remain steadfast in our commitment to crew safety in line with our ‘Target Zero’ vision for zero injuries, zero spills, and zero accidents across our managed fleet.
In addition, Wallem offers enhanced onboard internet access for seafarers working across its managed fleet.
On this DotS – Thursday, 25 June 2026 – let us unite in appreciation for the invaluable contribution seafarers make to world trade. Their unwavering dedication is made all the more commendable when considering the unique risks and sacrifices it entails.
