| The first
Wallem-managed vessel to undergo a Quality 360 audit
has received top marks by the surveyor from Germanischer
Lloyd.
The Triton Reefer underwent the survey in May 2008,
receiving a rating of 98.3 percent. The surveyor said
it was the highest score that he has awarded for the
Quality 360 audits.
NYK Reefers, the owners of the Triton Reefer, is committed
to the Quality 360 program as one of the founding
members of the initiative, along with other companies
providing specialised refrigerated cargo services.
Quality 360 includes a code against which vessels
are assessed for the care of their fresh cargo; providing
producers, distributors, retailers and consumers with
a reliable stamp of quality.
Wallem Shipmanagement Managing Director Jim Nelson
said Wallem started preparing reefer ships under Wallem
management for the Quality 360 audits in late 2007.
“We wanted to make sure our crew didn’t
think this was just another audit, but a sign of the
quality they were delivering worldwide,” Mr
Nelson said.
“We worked with the owners to provide our crews
with information on the Quality 360 code against which
they would be assessed, and a focus was placed on
the prevention of spoilage, including stowing and
securing cargo safely, and adhering to maintenance
procedures.
“The master of the vessel, Captain Yuriy Yakymenko,
and his Wallem team onboard the Triton Reefer are
an excellent example of the crews the company considers
essential to our own success, and our clients’.
“A high standard has been set which all other
vessels will now aspire to.”
