Wallem Shipmanagement in Chennai has opened a new office, catering to the seafarer’s in India’s south, including the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Wallem Shipmanagement (India) is the only employer of seafarers which provides training facilities for its seafarers in Chennai.

Captain Hari Pillay, the Manager of the Wallem Chennai office, says the new office further improves the training seafarers receive in southern India.

“Our new office is more than three times larger, and half of that is dedicated to the training centre where we offer 17 different courses,” Capt. Pillay said.

“We provide computer based training and lectures as well as a lab workroom where we can train up to 24 seafarers at a time.

“With these resources available in Chennai, Wallem crew will not be away from their family for long periods to complete some of the training vital for their careers at sea.”

Wallem Chennai currently provides services to 490 seafarers, about 250 of which are onboard at any one time.

Wallem established the crew personnel office in Chennai in 1997 to provide a local recruitment hub for the region and reduce the travel time for local Wallem crew.

From the Chennai office, Wallem crew receive support and assistance in documentation, pre-joining medical examinations and processing in addition to training.

Wallem Shipmanagement (India) Pvt Ltd changed its name from Wilco Shipmanagement and Travels in 2009. In 2010, the company is celebrating 25 years of services to Indian seafarers. Wallem Shipmanagement (India) currently has offices and training centres in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chandigargh and Chennai.
