Seafarer Training
Safe ship operations, accident/loss prevention and environmental protection are important for Wallem’s ship management business. Investing in training is critical for continuous improvement in the performance of seafarers.
Wallem has eight training centres (Wallem Maritime Training Centres WMTCs) across our key recruitment regions of India, China, the Philippines and the most recent centre in the Ukraine. These state of the art centres are equipped with navigational and engine room simulators, computers, and experienced trainers.
The training centres offer up to 40 different courses for our seafarers, which have been developed based on changes in the shipping industry and needs analysis from audits.
Courses on offer include Bridge Team Management using our own in house full mission simulator, Marine Resource Management - endorsed and approved by the Swedish Club. SETS and Computer Based Training as well as Safety Management, MARPOL and Internal Auditor courses.
Seafarers are also instructed on specialised Wallem software systems used onboard to ensure our seafarers are proficient in their use.
In addition to shore-based training, Wallem Shipmanagement employs a team of shipboard trainers who audit and provide training onboard vessels in the fleet. This upgrades and refreshes the knowledge of our seafarers whilst they are onboard.
A WMTC website provides seafarers with a guide to their training needs, when the courses are run and how to access the training centres. The WMTC website is: wmtc.wallem.com
