ship operations coupled with accident/loss prevention and
environmental protection are given the highest possible
profile in Wallem. Our philosophy is that investing in training
is critical in continuously improving the performance of
our seastaff.
This led to the establishment of the first
Wallem Maritime Training Centre at our office in Mumbai
in 1994, this was fully upgraded in 2005 and re-opened as
the most modern and up-to-date training facility in India
today.
Since then, Wallem Shipmanagement has increased
our investment into crew training and has now established
state of the art training centres in each of our major seafarer
supply countries.
Wallem view employee development as an ongoing process,
therefore the three training centres have been established
with seamless integration and transfer of course material
in mind. All three have been supplied with the same equipment;
therefore a course or material developed in one centre is
immediately suitable for use at either or both of the other
two centres.
Investment in lecturers, hardware and software
continues with a wide range of industry standards and company
specific Wallem training initiatives in mind. These include
Bridge Teamwork training with our own in house full mission
simulator being utilized, Marine Resource Management endorsed
and approved by the Swedish Club. SETS and Computer Based
Training as well as Safety Management, MARPOL and Internal
Auditor courses.
Because of the number of company specific
computer programs in use onboard our ships, a large portion
of our training schedule is given over to ensuring that
our seafarers are fully conversant with the software onboard
and therefore able to maximize its use.
Over and above shore based training,
Wallem Shipmanagement employs a team of shipboard trainers
who audit and impart training onboard of vessels within
the fleet, thereby upgrading and refreshing the knowledge
of our seafarers whilst they are onboard.
